The Territory
The Estancias
A working sheep station in winter, stripped back to its essentials.
Before the road, before the park, there was the estancia. On the Patagonian steppe, the working sheep station is the oldest way of life there is — and in winter, with the tourists gone and the grass silvered by frost, it shows its truest face.
We spend a cultural day on a working estancia: the gaucho moving the flock at first light, the sheepdogs reading his every whistle, the weathered timber of buildings that have stood against this wind for a century. It is unhurried, real, and quietly cinematic.
For the photographer, it is a study in texture and gesture — frost on wool, breath in cold air, a face shaped by the land, the low sun raking across the steppe. The kind of frames that feel less like travel and more like testimony.
