The Territory
Around Puerto Natales
The quiet country at our doorstep — and the town itself.
Some of the best photography of the whole trip happens within half an hour of the front door. The country immediately around Puerto Natales is overlooked by the crowds rushing to the park — which is exactly why it rewards those who stay.
Laguna Sofía is the anchor: limestone walls rising from still water, one of the finest places in the region to photograph condors riding the thermals, and a quiet you can almost hear — all a short drive from Bories.
And then there is the town itself. The costanera along the Seno Última Esperanza, where the light works the water at dawn and dusk, and the old muelles — the weathered jetties that reach out into the fjord, all peeling paint and patient wood. Short distances, low winter light, and space to work without a queue.
